Granbury, Texas is a unique town in that it’s not quite “western,” yet not quite “Southern,” it’s somewhere in between. If you could put a cowboy hat on Charleston, SC, that might be close to an accurate description of Granbury, Texas. Cowboy roots run deep here. It’s no surprise as we sit in between Fort Worth and Stephenville, Texas, both self-proclaimed Cowboy Capitals of the world. The community has done an admirable job preserving the history here for generations to come. At every turn of the historic Granbury Square there’s historic landmarks, preserved architecture and legends. Surrounded by perfectly preserved historic homes and on the banks of Lake Granbury, our town is a very special place.
Tradition reigns here during the holidays and throughout the year. But, during the holidays, it’s hard to outdo Granbury, Texas. The Season starts with the Night of Lights Parade every year, on the Friday after Thanksgiving. There’s no shortage of beauty and holiday magic everywhere. Every weekend in December is packed with annual and biennial events, including Granbury Christmas Cards and the Candlelight Tour of Homes, and let’s not forget Mr. and Mrs. Claus that make an appearance for families and children throughout the entire month of December on the Square. Every year, the Granbury Theatre Company puts on a fabulous holiday show at the historic Granbury Opera House. As well, “The Christmas Carol Experience,” hosted by Visit Granbury at the Dora Lee Langdon Center made its debut in 2021. This family-friendly, music filled immersive experience was instantly popular and has been invited back this year.
There’s no shortage of parties, either! Live music venues including Granbury Live!, Bob’s on the Square, and Warren’s Backyard host live music concerts. Local chefs and artists create and host special events and create unforgettable experiences and products. Some of our favorite non-profits such as Hood County Christmas for Children organize fundraising events and cheer that last the whole year long.
